City of Devonport Tasmanian Open: Tournament Preview

The run of Australian tournaments on the Challenger Tour continues this week with the City of Devonport Tasmanian Open, which takes place at the Devonport Squash Club in Tasmania. The Challenger 10 level competition, which features both a men’s and women’s draw, takes place from Wednesday, September 7 to Sunday, September 11, will see several members of the world’s top 100 in action across the week.

Hedrick wins silver at PSA Challenger Bega Open

The Volkswagen Bega Open came to its conclusion on Sunday afternoon at the Bega Country Club in NSW, with the Hong Kong duo of Chan Sin Yuk and Tsz Kan Lau taking the victories on Australian soil. Rex Hedrick represented the green and gold in the final of the event, putting up a strong fight against Tsz Kwan Lau in the Men’s final, however Lau took the win 3-0 (11-8, 11-5, 11-8).

Facility Spotlight: Nerang Squash Centre

The Nerang Squash and Fitness Centre was originally built in the 1970s, but has recently undergone major renovations due to flood damage. Located on the banks of the Nerang River, on the outskirts of the Gold Coast, the building was subject to flooding under the floorboards after decent rainfall in the area.

Squash Australia Partners with ACHPER to Boost National Participation

Squash Australia is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation (ACHPER) South Australia, to develop a new National Participation Program. The new look program will be delivered through Clubs and Schools and designed to engage new audiences and attract more participants to the sport. The first phase of the project is the development of the Sporting Schools element of the program through this partnership.

Australia secures 2023 World Junior Championships

The World Squash Federation (WSF) board has awarded the 2023 WSF World Junior Squash Championships to Squash Australia (SqA), with the event to feature junior men’s and women’s individual tournaments and the women’s junior team championships. The 2023 WSF World Junior Squash Championships will begin an exciting decade of sport for Australia, which will host the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Victoria and the 2032 Olympic Games in Brisbane.
