World Junior Squash Championships to begin Thursday

The 2022 World Junior Squash Championships will get underway on Thursday 11 August in Nancy, France from 11-21 August with the singles competition.
It is the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic that the event will take place after the cancellation of both the 2020 and 2021 editions set to be held in Australia and Egypt, respectively.
There will be 37 countries competing with the men’s events seeing 119 players in the singles while the women’s has 90 players, which takes place from 11-16 August. There are also 92 players across 23 squads who will play in the Men’s Team event which runs from 17-21 August.
Australia will have 12 players over in the northeastern riverfront French city including Greg Chan, Erin Classen, Kurstyn Mather, Oscar Curtis, Madison Lyon, Maggie Goodman, Dylan Classen, Brendan MacDonald, Sophie Fadaely and Andre Lynn.
In the women’s event, Lyon and Slyth have received byes in Round 1 and will begin their campaign in Round 2 - taking place the same day.
Goodman will be the first of the Australian contingent to take to the court against Canada’s Maria Min with Lyon rounding out the day for the Aussies, facing either Sara Natalia Caicedo Ortiz of Colombia or Aston Weir of South Africa.
Meanwhile, Classen is on the path to face No.2 seed Amina Orfi of Egypt in Round 2. The 15-year-old has been prolific in junior events, winning three British Junior Open titles and a US Junior Open title.
Over in the men’s draw, Round 3 Classen could face 3/4 seed, Finnlay Withington of England, in Round 3 with McDonald and Luke Eyles also set to face seeded players if they progress.
The World Junior Championships is held annually with the 2022 edition featuring a junior men’s and women’s individual event as well as the men’s junior team championships which are held in alternate years.
The World Junior Squash Championships are being played at both Squash de Reve and TSB Jarville, which includes a glass court.
