WJC Team Event - Egypt Crowned World Champions

The women’s team event of the 2023 World Junior Squash Championships came to a close today with Egypt the newly crowned Junior World Champions. 

Global powerhouses Egypt and Malaysia went head to head at the 2023 WSF World Junior Squash Championships in Melbourne, with Egypt cementing their status as World Champions. 

Egypt’s Zeina Kareem Zein El-Din got the team off to a flying start with a win against Sehveetrraa Kumar (11-3, 11-5, 2-11, 11-0). 

Back-to-back junior world champion Amina Orfi closed out the event, commanding the win against Aira Azman (11-7 11-8 11-2). 

Earlier in the day, the Australian women’s team finished their World Championships campaign on a high, becoming the best-performing Australian junior women's team since 2003. 

Defeating India in the 7th place playoff 2-0, both Erin Classen and Madison Lyon were dominant in their victories. 

Erin Classen was first on court, defeating Tiana Parasrampuria in an impressive 3-0 victory (11-1, 11-8, 11-6). 

Madison Lyon closed out the team event prevailing over Pooja Arthi Raghu with a 3-1 win (13-11, 3-11, 11-4, 11-4). 

All remaining playoffs were completed today, concluding the end of the tournament.
