South Australian Soha Khatri has had a unique journey with Squash. After relocating to Egypt with her family at 9 years old for her two older brothers to advance their Squash training, Soha decided she would also join the game.
“My family has always encouraged sports, I have participated in swimming, cricket, basketball and football,” said Soha.
“When my family moved to Egypt to support my two older brothers for their squash training, I was only 9.
“I remember playing the sport in Egypt for the first time and instantly fell in love with the game.”
Training under the Effat brothers, Haitham and Ahmed at the National Stadium in Cairos, Soha shares, “Both of them have been such a big part of my life, not just improving my physical game but my mindset, discipline and resilience on court and off court.”
With her parents currently based in Dubai while she is in Cairos for training, Soha has taken the opportunity to focus solely on her training which has now paid off by representing Australia at the upcoming World Junior Championships held in Houston, Texas.
“I am very honored to be selected to represent Australia, I am very proud to be able to wear the Green and Gold at the biggest tournament of the season,” said Soha.
“Being able to play the sport that I love against the best players in the world is truly special.”
“It’s been a tough season and the training for WJC has been super intense but once it's over, I’m looking forward to focusing a bit more on my academics until the British Junior Open and US Junior Open in December.”
