WJC Day 4 Wrap - Curtis locks in top 20 result

Published Fri 21 Jul 2023

West Australian Oscar Curtis is assured of a top 20 finish after day four of the 2023 WSF World Junior Squash Championships at Melbourne Sports Centres.

Curtis was pitted against Samuel Gerrits in the 17th/24th draw and bounced out to a 9-4 advantage in the opening game before the Dutchman was forced to succumb to injury and withdraw from the tournament.

On Saturday he will take on Malaysia’s Harith Danial Jefri for a place in the 17th/18th place playoff.

Dylan Classen is now in the 37th/40th bracket after going down today to Daniel Deverill. Classen dropped the first game before equalising, however the Canadian fought back to take the next two games and the match 3-1.

Classen will face India’s Sharan Punjabi on Saturday.

Connor Hayes and Harvey Allan both went down in their respective clashes this afternoon but could find themselves pitted against each other depending on out tomorrow’s results fare in the 69th/72nd draw.

Australia is left without any women in action on the weekend after Madison Lyon went down 1-3 in the Special Plate Round of 16 and Courtney Scholtz was defeated in the Consolation Plate Quarter-Final.

Day five action begins on Saturday at 11am AEST with the Glass Court, Court 6 and Court 9 being live streamed via WorldSquash.TV.
