WJC Day 4 Preview - Eight Aussies in Friday matches

Eight Australians will be in action at Melbourne Sports Centres today when Day 4 of the 2023 WSF World Junior Squash Championships get underway.

Oscar Curtis and Madison Lyon can still finish as high as 17th in their competitions but will need to overcome strong opponents in today’s matches.

West Australian Curtis takes on Samuel Gerrits in the 17th/24th draw this afternoon, with the Dutchman coming off a four-game win yesterday over India’s 9/16 seed Krishna Mishra].

Queensland’s Lyon is in the Special Plate Round of 16 against Ena Kwong from Hong Kong, China. Both players took down Scottish opponents yesterday with Lyon bouncing back strongly from her third round defeat.

Dylan Classen won a torrid encounter in front of a big crowd yesterday and he can still eye off a top-33 finish if he overcomes Canada’s Daniel Deverill this afternoon. The West Australian’s Court 6 match will be streamed live on WorldSquash.TV.

Following their victories yesterday, Victorians Harvey Allan and Connor Hayes are in the can still finish in the top 65 of the men’s draw should they proceed today, while NSW’s Ken Lamb and Thomas Scott are assured of top 80 results.

Victoria’s Courtney Scholtz will play Queensland-based Maltese Commonwealth Games athlete Lijana Sultana in the quarter-finals of the Consolation Plate.
