WJC Day 3 Preview - Locals fight for high finishes
Published Thu 20 Jul 2023
While the 12-strong Australian contingent are not fighting for top honours at the 2023 WSF World Junior Squash Championships following the opening two days, all players are on court today vying for high finishing places.
Oscar Curtis and Madison Lyon can still finish as high as 17th in their respective draws despite going down in the round of 32 yesterday. Lyon is also joined in the Women’s Special Plate Round of 16 by Shona Coxsedge and Hannah Slyth courtesy of the pair’s opening round victories on the first day of competition.
West Australian Dylan Classen moved forward in his section of the draw with victory on day two and can eye off a 33rd-place finish if he continues on his winning ways.
Amelie Guziak and Erin Classen both turned the tables on opening day losses to score victories on Wednesday and take their place in the Women’s Plate Round of 16. Courtney Scholtz will contest the Women’s Consolation Plate Round of 16.
All four men in the 65th/96th place draw claimed 3-0 victories yesterday, meaning Ken Lamb, Harvey Allan, Connnor Hayes and Thomas Scott will all finish within the top 80 juniors in the world.
Day three action begins on Thursday at 11am AEST with the Glass Court, Court 6 and Court 9 being live streamed via WorldSquash.TV.
Highlights from Day two will be available from around 10:30am AEST on Thursday morning on 7plus.
