William Siviour causes an upset on day one of the Australian Junior Open

Published Sat 03 Apr 2021

The Australian Junior Open got underway yesterday at the Devonport Squash Centre in Tasmania. The event brings together many of the best junior squash players from all over Australia.

It was a good day for the athletes as the top four seeded players in almost every draw made their way through to the semi-finals.

One exception to this was in the Under 17 Boys draw where sixth seed William Siviour (NT) upset fourth seed Adam Hegazy (VIC) in straight games 11-5, 11-7, 11-8 (21 mins).

Both the top seeds in the Under 19 Boys and Girls draws won comfortably to earn their place in their respective semi-finals.

[1] Oscar Curtis (WA) def [6] Diego Hernandez (ACT) 11-6, 11-0, 11-3 (16 min)

[1] Maggie Goodman (NSW) def [7] Jana Hegazy (VIC) 11-3, 11-1, 11-3 (14 min)

Matches start today from 9:30 am AEDT, including semi-finals for most draws.
