Vale Paul Vear

Published Fri 21 Jan 2022

Squash Australia would like to extend our condolences to the family and loved ones of Paul Vear, who sadly passed away yesterday afternoon.

Vear’s passion for squash and racquetball was evident through his dedication and contribution to the sport, which saw him awarded an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in the 2021 Queen's Birthday Honours List, An award he received late last year.

His involvement in squash over the last 50 years is extensive from his days as a State Grade player, delegate to Squash Australia, Board member and as the Executive Director of Squash & Racquetball Victoria. He also held various roles at numerous tournaments, national and international events.

Paul played an instrumental role in the 2001 Melbourne International Squash Festival and 2005 World Deaf Squash Championships while he also took on the role of Squash Assistant Competition Manager during the 2006 Commonwealth Games, to name a few.

Vear was recognised with Squash and Racquetball Victoria Legend and Hall of Fame status, alongside his Squash Australia 2005 Administrator of the Year.

He will be missed by the Victorian squash and racquetball community, and the wider Australian community.

Our thoughts and condolences are with his partner Jane and his children Ryan and Tara.
