ANC Day 2 | Top seeds set up semi-final showdowns

Published Sat 15 Jun 2024

The top four seeds in the men's and women's draws have successfully navigated their way into the semi-finals of the 2024 Australian National Championships at the WA Squash Centre in Perth.

Defending women's champion Jess Turnbull and men's top seed Joseph White both scored comfortable wins.

Men's second seed Rhys Dowling didn't have things all his own way, dropping the third game to Bradley Fullick before recovering to stay on track for a fourth straight final.

South Australia's second seed Alex Haydon spent less than 20 minutes on court to defeat Remashree Muniandy as she hopes to go one better than her runner-up title in 2023.

Haydon, fresh off a win in the WA Open International, will now face Madison Lyon, who claimed her maiden PSA Challenger title in May at the Auckland Open. Close friends will face off in the other semi when Sarah Cardwell - who beat WA's Hannah Slyth in the quarter-finals - meets Turnbull who is on track for a third-straight title.

In the men's semis, Dowling will meet 2020 champion Nick Calvert, while White is up against Dylan Molinaro who is in the final four for the second year in a row.

Molinaro will be looking to turn the tables on White who defeated him in the quarter-finals of the 2022 ANC in Darwin.
