Thrilling finals cap off the North Coast PSA Challenger Tour

The North Coast PSA Challenger Tour finals delivered two thrilling matches to cap off the tournament at the Coffs Harbour Squash and Swim Centre.

The men’s final delivered a good mix of intensity, with both Bryan Lim and Nicholas Calvert working each other to all parts of the court.

Lim got off to strong start managing to clinch a tight first game. Calvert managed a strong fight back, working the ball to the back of the court looking to secure anything loose and forcing the second game into a tie break. Lim struggled to find his placements in the third allowing Calvert to gain the upper hand.

But Lim came out with more focus in the fourth and fifth games, powering home to take out the North Coast Open PSA Challenger Title.

“It is always tough against Nic, but I am happy with my first win here at the North Coast Open,” Lim said.

In the women’s final both Tamika Saxby and Jessica Turnbull came out firing. While Saxby made a couple of errors at the end of the first game that allow Turnbull to capitalise, she turned things around in the second to level the draw.

There was not much between the two ladies, with Turnbull taking a one game lead when she took out the third game.  But with Saxby rebounding she took out the fourth game to push it to a decider.

Turnbull was strong from the outset and was able to maintain that momentum to take home her first North Coast Open PSA Challenger crown.

“It is great to get a win here at the North Coast Open, it was tough against Tamika as this was our fourth meeting. Today I managed to keep my errors down to get the win,” Turnbull said.
