The Australian Junior Championships are set to get underway at Squashworld Mirrabooka, in Perth, WA from tomorrow. Starting with the individual competition from the 27th to the 29th of September and ending with the team's event from the 30th of September to the 2nd of October.
Almost 200 junior athletes from across all states and territories will compete in their respective age groups from Under 11s through to Under 19s, battling it out to determine the 2022 Australian Junior Individual and Team Champions.
Squash Australia CEO Rob Donaghue said it's fantastic to see the Australian Junior Championships returning to its pre-pandemic glory.
"We're looking forward to welcoming almost 200 athletes to Perth this week for the Australian Junior Championships," he said.
“After the event was scaled down in 2020 and cancelled in 2021 due to COVID, it's fantastic to see such a strong turn-out for this year's event, demonstrating how eager junior athletes are to return to national-level events and represent their state playing the sport they love.
“We would like to thank Squash WA and the City of Stirling Council for their support in bringing the event back to west for the first time since 2014.”
Local WA Squash player Aiden Finlay-Mulligan, currently ranked 13th expressed his excitement about having the Championship event held in his home state, and his goal to push for a podium place.
“It's cool to have it in my state where my family are,” Mulligan said.
“My preparation has been really good, I have been hitting with a few good partners and ready for the challenges.
The 2022 Australian Junior Squash Championships will be held at Squashworld Mirrabooka, WA from Tuesday 30 September - Sunday 2 October.
