Squash Australia’s Sporting Schools program has achieved a huge milestone this month, with the program delivered to its 10,000th student.
What started as OzSquash in 2016 was revamped earlier this year into Squash Stars, the new national participation program being rolled out into schools.
The first OzSquash program was delivered seven years ago at Rosalie Primary School in Western Australia. This term, Charles Weston School became not only Canberra’s first school to roll out the new Squash Stars, but can also lay claim to delivering the program to its 10,000th participant.
Squash Stars, and its predecessor OzSquash, have now been delivered in every state and territory across the country and current interest in the program is on the rise.
“Squash Stars is really resonating with teachers across the country, which is exactly what we wanted when we asked teachers to be involved in the redevelopment of our national participation program,” said Shaun McEachin, Squash Australia National Lead - Sport Development.
“In 2022, Squash Australia started working with Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation (SA) to develop the Squash Stars program, creating a new suite of games and activities which has proved a hit with teachers and school children alike.
“Not only have soared past 10,000 students, we are on track to get to 11,000 as early as term one in 2024.”
While Squash Stars has replaced OzSquash in the national Sporting Schools program, the next phase of delivery will be making it available in clubs and squash centres around the country.
