Squash Smarts | Striving to take the game to another level

Published Tue 24 Sep 2024

Squash Australia has today launched the first of a series of videos positioned to showcase the great work being done across the game and what can be achieved.

Squash Smarts will highlight key areas of success that have been achieved by states, clubs, coaches and players in areas that are often considered too difficult to undertake.

The opening episode of Squash Smarts focuses on the newly-renovated Squash WA State Centre in Perth and the steps taken to take the facility from one which was tired and uninspiring to a venue lauded after its recent hosting of the Australian National Championships.

Squash WA General Manager Leigh Kaye takes viewers into some of the detail which took place behind the scenes, breaking it down to show that what can be achieved in Perth can be replicated elsewhere around the country.

“There are so many good stories about what is happening to help grow the game at the grassroots level and it’s important to showcase exactly what can be achieved,” said Robert Donaghue, Squash Australia CEO. “At first glance, the project undertaken to transport Belmont Squash & Sports Centre to the Squash WA State Centre may have seemed out of reach however, Squash Smarts takes viewers through the key steps taken to achieve the ultimate goal.

“Squash Smarts will continue to bring the community more and more stories from outside the four walls of clubs and centres and hopefully provide some inspiration as to what can be achieved with a clear goal and the dedication to achieve it.”

Episodes of Squash Smarts will be released periodically with the series set to focus on areas including participation, venues, administration, coaching, community engagement and funding.

“We’re very aware that a lot of people find major initiatives quite daunting and it’s often easier to keep doing things the way they have always been done, but there are great success stories out there that we want to share,” added Donaghue. “
“Anyone involved in sport behind the scenes would like to have a legacy of leaving the sport in a better way than when they starting taking part, and we hope Squash Smarts will show the community just what is possible.”
