Squash Australia welcomes announcement on 2026 Commonwealth Games

Squash Australia has joined with Commonwealth Games Australia in welcoming the news that Commonwealth Games Scotland has secured Government support to host the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The decision provides the Commonwealth Games Federation with the tools it needs to conclude stakeholder discussions, with the aim of formally announcing Glasgow as the 2026 host city as soon as possible.

Those discussions will also lock in dates for the Games during the European summer and the sports which will be included in the Games.

Both World Squash and Scottish Squash have been in ongoing discussions with Commonwealth Games Scotland regarding the retention of Squash in the Games for 2026.

“The Commonwealth Games have been the pinnacle for Australian squash players since the sport was first included in 1998,” said Robert Donaghue, Squash Australia CEO. “While the sport’s inclusion in the LA 2028 Olympic program delivers a history-making direction for squash, the Commonwealth Games remains an incredibly important particularly for Australian athletes..

“Rachael Grinham was one of Australia’s flagbearers at Birmingham two years ago and we look forward to more squash players wearing the green and gold should the sport be included for Glasgow.”
