Squash Australia would like to congratulate Barbara Slotemaker de Bruine AM on her recognition in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours, as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM).
Barbara was National Coaching Director from 1988 to 1992, became Australian Coach of the Year in 1993, and was awarded the Distinguished Service Award from Squash Australia in 2010 for her services to squash over 50 years.
On the court, Slotemaker de Bruine reached number three in Australia, donned the green and gold on three occasions and was part of the first-ever team to beat England.
More recently, Slotemaker de Bruine published her book The Golden Years of Australian Women's Squash, which records the history of squash from 1954 to 2010, including Australia's undefeated effort as a team from 1964 to 1980.
Today, the Canberran has been recognised for her exceptional service and commitment to squash as a player, administrator and coach in Australia.
“Barbara’s passion and commitment to squash saw Australia create history on the world stage as well as teach the next generation of squash players including former world no.4 Stewart Boswell,” said Squash Australia CEO Robert Donaghue.
"On behalf of Squash Australia, I congratulate Barbara on this well-deserved honour, recognising her invaluable contribution to our sport."
