Squash Australia announces postponement of 2021 Australian Junior Championships

Squash Australia in collaboration with State Associations, has today taken the difficult decision to postpone the 2021 Australian Junior Championships, originally scheduled in Woden, ACT from 26 September to 2nd October.

The Woden Squash Centre will remain the host of the Australian Junior Championships, which will now be held from the 13-19 December 2021. The individual event will commence on 13 December and conclude on 15 December, with the team event to follow on 16-19 December.

The decision has been made in consideration of the current COVID-19 restrictions in place in New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria impacting travel as well as the delivery of large-scale community events, which cannot proceed as planned.

Squash Australia remains committed to ensuring that the safety, health and well-being of all participants, organisers, volunteers and spectators is of absolute priority.

Squash Australia CEO, Robert Donaghue, said the decision to postpone the event was not taken lightly, but was done with the safety of the squash community in mind and designed to give every athlete the best opportunity to take part in the Australian Junior Championships.

“We thank the squash community for being patient and understanding while we navigate the uncertainty. As we continue to live in a COVID-19 world, plans will evolve and change according to the situation and the current health advice.” he said.

Squash Australia will continue to keep the safety, health and well-being of all participants as its prime focus, constantly monitoring public health directives and ensuring that events take place according to the appropriate COVID-safe plans.
