SEMI FINALS LINE UPS DECIDED AFTER STRONG SECOND DAY OF ANC

It was another strong day of competition at the Australian National Championships, with tomorrow’s semi final positions decided.
Top seeded men’s player Rhys Dowling and reigning Australian National Championships Nicholas Calvert kick started their ANC campaigns today.
Dowling came into the ANC recovering from a few little injuries, but managed to deliver two solid wins.
“It was 50/50 going into the tournament with a few injuries, but pleased to get through.
“It’s the strongest [competition] I’ve seen in a while in Australia, it’s amazing to see, it’s easily one of the strongest tournaments,” he said.
Looking to take back to back titles, Calvert was please with his start to the ANC.
“It’s always a tough tournament, I don’t expect any easy matches from it. It was good to get the first win to settle a few nerves.
“The whole draw is full of quality and fast players, so it’s exciting to be in this environment,” he said.
In the women’s tournament, second seed Sarah Cardwell delivered a strong win over Jessica Osborne to book her semi final berth.
“It’s nice to be home, even though its for bad reasons like COVID, I’m happy to be in Australia and be able to compete.
“It’s great, we can all push each other. There is a bunch of are up in Queensland, that has certainly helped me come back after COVID… being from Melbourne the girls have helped push me back up. You can see it here that everyone is really close in standard,” he said.
South Australian player Alex Haydon will meet Caldwell in the Semi Final after a win over Jess Turnbull.
“Jess has won the last few tournaments at PSA events… that win was massive for me.
“I feel like I’ve come far this year… with all us girls training together on the Gold Coast it’s been so good for me,” she said.
