The PSA Challenger Tour completes its third stop in as many weeks with the Volkswagen Bega Open taking place on the NSW South Coast.
The Challenger 10 event also doubles as the seventh of nine tournaments on the 2023 Australian Squash Tour.
Top seed in the women’s draw is Malak Khafagy, a member of Egypt’s victorious World Junior Championship team in Melbourne last month. The 19-year-old was also a semi-finalist in the individual event and is already ranked number 62 in the world.
She sits just ahead of of Australia’s top-ranked player Jess Turnbull who enters the tournament on the back of a semi-final appearance at the Costa North Coast Open two weeks ago.
Turnbull is one of 10 Australians in the women’s draw which features representatives from nine countries in the 24-strong field.
Last week’s Jansher Khan Canberra Open winner Akanksha Salunkhe (India) and Victoria’s Sarah Cardwell round out the top four seeds.
India’s Velavan Senthilkumar enters the men’s draw as one of the players to watch on the back of his victory last week in Canberra.
However top-seed at the tournament is Japan’s Ryunosuke Tsukue who won the Austrian Open in June this year and is at a career-high world ranking of 61.
Senthilkumar is the second seed just ahead of the man he beat in the Canberra final, Australia’s Joseph White.
Like the women’s draw, 10 Australian men are in the field of 24 from 10 different nations.
The 2023 Volkswagen Bega Open starts today at Bega Squash Club.
