New Zealander Charlie Prince started strong, with two good wins on day one, including upsetting Australian William Slade.

Prince powered through to deliver a 1 - 3  (9-11 , 11-5 , 7-11 , 3-11) win.

‘It was very tough game against William,” Prince said.

“I’m really loving it here in Australia, it’s hot, but I’m enjoying the competition and long rallies,” he said.

South Australian Aryan Maddan also managed to notch up a win on day one of the competition, against fellow Aussie Patrick O’Shannessy, 1 - 3   (10-12 , 11-9 , 7-11 , 7-11).

“The atmosphere here at the Oceania Junior Championships is so good… there is plenty of people here and it is good to see so many international competitors here again,” Maddan said.

“I had a good long match against Patrick, winning in four games, which was a really good way to start my competition,” he said.

Playing in her first international tournament, Fatimah Kanh from New South Wales had mixed results on day one, winning one game and losing one game.

“This is my first international tournament, the atmosphere is good and exciting,” Kanh said.

“I played my first match and won 3 nill, and unfortunately lost the second one, but looking forward to tomorrow,” she said.

Competition will resume tomorrow morning, Sunday 18 December, at Thornleigh Squash and Fitness Centre from 8.30am AEDT.

Schedule and results will be available on the Squash Australia website, while matches played on court #2 will be streamed for free on Cluch TV and World Squash TV.
