NSW claim Teams championship at home

New South Wales has prevailed on the final day of competition in one of the closest finishes to an Australian Junior Championships Teams event in history.

Coming into the final day of competition, victory to NSW or Victoria in their final round clash would be enough to take the overall win.

The tie was evenly-poised right up to the final pair of matches with U19 Champion Thomas Scott scoring the Bluetongue's eighth win with an unpassable game advantage meaning they could not be overhauled.

The contest finished eight wins apiece, with NSW winning 31 games to 28 to gain the two bonus points to finish three points ahead of the defending champions.

Queensland scored 12-4 victory over South Australia to lock in a third place finish.

Division 1 Standings: New South Wales 52, Victoria 49 Queensland 40, Western Australia 21, South Australia 18

A single game ended up being the difference between Queensland emerging superior in Division 2, topping the standings by a solitary point ahead of NSW.

When the two teams met on day two they finished with four wins each, however Queensland scored one more game (15-14) to earn two bonus points.

While Queensland defeated WA today and NSW beat ACT 6-2, had yesterday's bonus points gone the other way the overall result would have been reversed.

Division 2 Standings: Queensland 31, New South Wales 30, Australian Capital Territory 18, Western Australia 12, Victoria 9.
