Local talent thriving in the Moreton Bay PSA Satellite

Published Fri 19 Mar 2021

The quarter finals got underway yesterday in the Moreton Bay PSA Satellite at Redcliffe PCYC. Local talent Brad Fremme shook up the competition, while Alex Haydon fought hard against former world number one.

The Women’s PSA Quarter Finals saw 7th seed Alex Haydon take on 1st seed Rachael Grinham in a hard-fought battle. While Alex came out strong, Rachael showed her class to take the win 11-4, 11-6, 10-12, 11-8 (28 mins).

"To Alex’s credit, she fought her way back into the match well after Rachael came out quickly in the opening two games. The fouth game could have gone either way, however, Rachael’s experience shone through in the latter stages to take the match,” said National Coach, Stewart Boswell.

The upset and longest match of the day came from Redcliffe local, Brad Freeme, who after beating David Turner last night advanced to take on 3rd seed Thomas Calvert. Calvert got off to an early lead and appeared to be well placed in the first, however, Freeme managed to take control of the match and took out the victory in four, 7-11, 11-6, 11-8, 11-3 (35 mins).

Unseeded Caleb Johnson put second seed Bryan Lim through his paces, but Lim proved too strong, booking his place in the semi final with a solid victory 13-11, 11-8, 11-3 (34 mins).
