Australia overcame Germany overnight to claim their first win on the final day of the pool stage at the WSF Women's World Team Championships in Cairo.

After narrowly losing to Scotland the day before, Australia made a strong start with Jess Turnbull, as the 2022 national champion stormed back from 0-1 to take the victory in four games in her match against Katerina Tycova.

Donna Lobban then took the chance to secure the match inside of two matches as she dominated the court against Saskia Beinhard. Lobban closed out her match in straight games in just 20' to give Australia the win.

In the third match Sarah Cardwell was defeated by Maya Weishar, who gave Germany the point for the final 2-1.

"It was great to get out there and get the first win on the board for the team," Turnbull said. "Donna went out there and smashed it out, so stoked to get the win over Germany and get stuck in against Japan tomorrow."

Australia finished third in pool B behind USA and Scotland, advancing to the Round Robin phase of the tournament, which will assign places from 9-12.

The Aussie team will face Japan on Wednesday 14 December at 8pm AEDT, before taking on South Africa on Thursday at 3am AEDT. The last match is scheduled for Thursday against Switzerland.
