Dowling, van der Walt win through to Chicago

After four days of action at Kooyong, Rhys Dowling and Jess van der Walt have booked their places at the 2024-25 PSA World Championships in Chicago.

The pair were victorious in Sunday afternoon's finals, with Dowling qualifying for the tournament for the first time.

The men's second seed was strong all week and had the draw open up when Tate Norris ousted the third seed in his half of the draw and Dylan Molinaro took down top seed Joseph White in the quarter-finals.

Molinaro started the final strongly to take the first game, however was forced to retire after falling behind 2-1.

Van der Walt returns to the World Championships after coming from behind twice on the weekend.

In her semi-final, van der Walt fell behind Madison Lyon 1-2 but was able to regain momentum and take her spot in the final.

There she faced Alex Haydon, last year's Oceania Qualifer, where she again found herself down 1-2.

However, once again, van der Walt staged a comeback to win it in five games for the second day in a row.

Dowling and van der Walt now take their place in the 2024-25 PSA World Championships in Chicago on 9-17 May.
