Cardwell, Calvert lead an Aussie wave into Bondi Open

The 2023 Bondi Open kicks off today with players from six countries vying for the PSA Challenger Tour 6 title.
Australian No.2 Sarah Cardwell (VIC) leads the local charge as the top seed in the women’s field, with Sophie Fadaely (QLD) leading the other end of the draw.
In all, nine Australians are taking their place in the 16-strong women’s draw including World Junior Championships representative Shona Coxsedge (QLD) and Trans Tasman Test selections Emmy Lamb (NSW) and Joanne Joseph (VIC).
Queensland’s Nick Calvert is second seed for the men’s draw behind Sri Lankan No.1 Ravindu Laksiri.
Laksiri’s countryman Shamil Wakeel is seeded fifth for the event off the back of his NSW Open victory at Thornleigh last weekend, while Victorians Tate Zak Norris and Benjamin Ratcliffe are also in the draw’s top eight.
Men’s first round play begins at 5:30pm AEDT this evening with the women’s draw starting at 3:15pm AEDT on Thursday.
