Rachael Grinham, Donna Lobban and Jess Turnbull will get their singles campaign at the Commonwealth games underway on day two of competition in Birmingham.
Rhys Dowling rounds off the Aussies in the second round after the 27-year-old beat St Vincent and Grenadines competitor Jason Doyle on Friday 3-0.
He will now face Chee Wern Yuen of Malaysia at (local times)/10:45pm (AEST) on Court 3.
Yuen, who is a 9-16 seed at Birmingham as well as a 2018 Asian Games gold medallist, beat Khamall Cumberbatch of Barbados on Friday 3-0.
Facing a top 100 player, Dowling knows the match won’t be an easy one.
“He’s a great player and he’s quite rapid with his shots so I will need to stay solid, cut out the angles for him and hopefully I can get a win,” he said.
Australia is guaranteed a spot in the Round of 16 with an all-Australia match between Lobban and Grinham, who go head-to-head on Show Court from 6:00pm (local time)/3:00am (AEST on Sunday 31 July).
The women’s doubles pairing recently met in the semi-finals of the 2022 Australian National Championships in Darwin with Lobban taking a 3-1 victory to reach the final.
Turnbull, who will make her Commonwealth Games debut, will be the first Aussie on the court as she comes up against Malta’s Colette Sultana on Court 2 at 12pm (local time)/9pm (AEST).
Both players have faced each other before with Turnbull getting the better of Sultana in their previous encounters, however, have not met since January 2020 at the Gold Coast PSA event.
Turnbull beat Sultana in the Women’s PSA final 3-0 (11-1, 11-5, 11-8).
For Turnbull, stepping out onto the court will be a dream come true.
“I’m looking forward to being able to pull on the Commonwealth Games uniform with the little crest, and Australia across my back and wear that full uniform,” she said.
The squash competition is being played at the University of Birmingham Squash Centre, with the action live and free on 7plus.
