Australian Squash Tour to relaunch this year

Published Fri 28 Apr 2023

Squash Australia is excited to relaunch the Australian Squash Tour in 2023.

Each year Squash Australia will invite 8-12 events to form the AST, with tournaments selection based largely on the level of competition and a spread of geographical locations.

Points will be accumulated at AST events, with players’ top five results counting towards their overall standing as they compete for a place at the AST Finals. The 2023 AST Finals will be held in conjunction with the City Tattersalls Group Australian Open, with this November’s event taking place in Sydney.

The top three male and female players will earn their place in the AST Finals, with one wildcard to be added to each draw. A countback system will determine overall rankings and seedings if points are tied.

Prizemoney will be on offer for all competitors who qualify for the AST Finals.

“The Australian Squash Tour will reinvigorate a number of the country’s highest quality tournaments, with even more incentive for players to take part and do well,” said Robert Donaghue, Squash Australia CEO.

“All events on the AST are PSA Satellite or Challenger events which should ensure we continue to see our best players challenging themselves against each other even more often.

“The opportunity to qualify for the AST Finals at the end of the year will see players continually looking to improve their five best results and it will be interesting to see how that qualification ladder shapes up as we move towards the final few qualifying events.

“It adds another dimension to some of our strongest events and I know the players are really looking forward to it.”

The first event on the 2023 Australian Squash Tour is the South Australian Open at The ARC, Campbelltown SA, from 19 to 21 May.
