Australian Junior Squash Tour Education Forum

Published Sat 11 Feb 2023

With more than 100 events conducted across the country throughout the year, the Australian Junior Squash Tour (AJST) plays a critical role in fostering the growth of rising junior talent and offering them a path to success in a competitive environment.

These competitions serve as stepping stones for beginners to the junior elite, creating the connection athletes need to advance from local events through to state, national and international competitions and by serving as a link from participation programmes and the High Performance sector of sport.

Squash Australia has announced a re-branding of the AJST aimed at simplifying the system, making it easier for new players to be part of the sport and encouraging juniors to be involved within the junior event pathway.

Squash Australia National Lead of Competitions & Events, Tamika Huntis excited about the re-branding and encourages others to attend the forum to learn more and gauge a better understanding of the tour.

“Squash Australia is excited about the re-branding of the tour, it will simplify and create consistency at AJST events across the country with the main goal of growing participation through positive player experiences,” said Hunt.

“This forum will give those already involved a better understanding of the tour, how it works and how everyone can benefit from it as well as introduce those who are new to the system,” said Hunt.

Squash Australia will be hosting an AJST Education Forum on Wednesday 22 February to bring players, parents and coaches up to speed with the new changes.

The aims of the forum are to:

  • increase awareness of the AJST regulations and change made in 2022
  • develop consistency across the AJST event levels in each State/Territory
  • improve the understanding and knowledge of how the AJST system operates
  • provide support and resources for States/Territories and AJST event conductors

The Forum will also include:

  • information of the AJST structure and long-term goals of the junior tour
  • details of the updated changes to the AJST
  • requirements of conducting an AJST event
  • explanation of the AJST Rankings

The 30 minute session is open to players, parents and coaches and will commence at 7pm AEST/8pm AEDT.
