Squash Australia is pleased to announce the 2021 Australian Junior Open (AJO) is coming to Devonport Tasmania over the Easter long weekend.

The AJO is a pinnacle event on the Australian Junior Squash Tour (AJST) providing a competitive pathway for aspiring squash players.

While current border restrictions in place between Tasmania and those from Greater Brisbane will unfortunately limit the number of Queenslanders able to attend the AJO, the event will proceed as planned however will be changed from a Platinum AJST event to a Gold event given that not everyone is able to attend

The weekend will feature three days of singles events and the final day will feature the first doubles tournament held at the AJO.

“The introduction of doubles will help to build awareness of the team side of the sport, showcasing to the next generation the different pathways opportunities open to them,” said Squash Australia CEO, Robert Donaghue.

“Each athlete is guaranteed three matches and will have the opportunity to compete against the best juniors in their age group.”

The event offers competition for the age groups U11 to U19 and gives the athletes the chance to earn ranking points across the tournament.

This event will take place at the Devonport Squash Club and supported by the Devonport Council. Entry is free to anyone who wish to come and watch the action.
