Aussie squash athletes put on a show in the North Coast PSA Challenger Tour Quarter Finals

Published Fri 07 May 2021

Australia’s Squash athletes were back in action last night at the North Coast PSA Challenger Tour event in Coffs Harbour yesterday.

The opening rounds of the tournament saw all the top seeded players progress comfortably into the evenings Quarter Finals.

The Quarter Finals produced some exciting action as Joseph White’s court coverage applying too much pressure for Thomas Calvert. The three games to one win sees White advance to the Semi Finals today.

The longest match of the night was between Nicholas Calvert and Solayman Nowrozi with both players having lengthy rallies to try to gain the advantage. Calvert won the vital points late in each game to seal a solid three game win to move to the next round.

"It’s always a tough match against Solayman. Overall, I am happy with how I stuck to my game plan to win in three,” said Nicholas Calvert.

Rhys Dowling missed an opportunity to take a straight games victory against Rohan Toole. Toole put up a spirited fight to close out the third game, but Dowling maintained his pressure and won the match in the fourth.

In the women’s, Jessica Turnbull started strongly against Maggie Marshall and capitalised on her early leads in each game. Turnbull won the match in straight games and progressed into today’s semi-finals.

“I am really happy to get the win today. Maggie is such a good player and someone I have looked up to for a long time so it was great to be on court with her,” Turnbull said.

Christine Nunn’s experience showed on the court but had to work hard against her younger opponent. Remashree Muniandy took the first game in a tie break before Nunn dominated the front court and proved too strong. Chrisitine Nunn will meet Jessica Turnbull in today's Semi Finals.

The action continues today at 2 pm with the women’s Semi Finals, you can watch it live right here: https://bit.ly/2QU9ul4
