ANC Day 1 | Nine players through to Quarters

Published Thu 13 Jun 2024

The opening day of the 2024 Australian National Championships in Perth has set the stage for Friday evening's quarter-finals.

In the men's first round, Dylan Molinaro set about his campaign to match last year's semi-final effort, dropping just 13 points on his way to victory. Fellow 3/4 seed Nicholas Calvert also scored a 3-0 win but was pushed hard at stage's by WA's Daniel Marsh.

The other players to progress were 5/8 seeds Bradley Fullick, David Turner, Benjamin Ratcliffe and Brendan MacDonald, whose reward for a five-game clash over Gregory Chan is a showdown with top seed Joseph White.

In the women's opening round, three players made their way into the quarter-finals.

Hannah Slyth defeated Shona Coxsedge in a showdown between the teammates from the 2023 World Junior Championships.

Pascale Louka fought the seedings and defeated the higher-ranked Sze Yu Lee while Remashree Muniandy fought on from a game-all to beat Rachael Grinham.

Quarter-final action begins on Friday at 6pm AEWST / 8pm AEST at WA Squash Centre with live streaming available via SquashAUS.TV
