2022 Trans Tasman Test Series off to a stellar start for Australia

Published Tue 20 Dec 2022

Junior players from Australia and New Zealand got back on the courts today for the Trans Tasman Test Series, following the successful Oceania Junior Championships.

After the first day of competition in Sydney, the Australians have taken a commanding lead sitting on 10 points to New Zealand’s 4. But with more action coming up tomorrow, anything can happen.

Making his Australian team debut, Kenneth Lamb was excited for the opportunity.

“My first match playing for Australia, I was a bit nervous at the start but I was glad to have won and got through.

“I played him [Paul Moran] yesterday in individuals and I also beat him in four… I felt like I played a bit better today, again just happy to have won,” he said.

Fellow youngster Courtney Scholtz also got off to a good start with a 3-1 win over New Zealand’s Ashlee Pepper.

“It was a good match. I played her in the individuals [Oceania Junior Championships] so I felt more comfortable this time.

“I knew her game and what to expect a bit more, in the individuals I won in five, but it was a lot closer and I didn't play as well.

“I think Australia did well today, our chances tomorrow are looking good… I think we scared them a bit today,” she said.
