The South Australian PSA Open and South Australian Junior Championships wrapped up on the weekend with Alex Haydon and Mike Corren taking the top honours.

With players travelling from North Queensland, Tasmania, New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia to compete across the Junior State Championships and PSA Satellite event, it was an action-packed weekend at ARC Campbelltown.

Corren won his 100th professional title after beating Victorian Tate Norris 3-1 (11-9 11-7 5-11 11-9) with the 48-year-old’s victory coming just a fortnight after securing the Kalgoorlie Golden Open.

Meanwhile, Birmingham 2022 debutant Alex Haydon took her first SA Open title, beating Queensland’s Sophie Fadaely 3-0 (11-8, 11-6, 11-8). It was a special victory for Haydon who won in front of her family and friends in her home state.

Paying tribute on social media, the 21-year-old thanked the local squash community for all their support.

“It was very special playing in the SA Open, being part of the Squash SA community again, seeing my previous coach James and all the new juniors coming through and having my grandparents, parents and close friends cheering me on,” she said.

“I wouldn’t be where I am now without the support I have from the SA community.”

The Under 11 Boys saw a round-robin event with James Sanders dropping only one game on his way to claiming the title over Wesley Correa in his final match.

It was a tough game for the duo which saw the match go to a fourth after Correa took the third 8-11 but Sanders prevailed in a dominating match to win 3-1.

Australian Open Junior U13 Girls Champion Tina Ma picked up the South Australian Junior title after topping her group in the U13 Girls event. The young Victorian also managed a runner-up finish in the U15 Girls event as Joanne Joseph took the title.

Joseph topped the Girls U15 round-robin competition without dropping a single game before going on to win the Girls U17 event as well.

Sophie Fadaely saw victory in the Girls U19 as she clashed with No. 2 seed Victoria’s Amelie Guziak after topping their groups. It was a close match-up between the pair but Fadaely came out on top, winning the match 3-0 (11-7 11-8 11-7).

Over in the Under 13 Boys, top seed Kieran Willathgamuwa dominated the proceedings and didn’t drop a single game on his way to claiming the state title.

In the U15 Boys, no.1 seed Jarrod Atkins and No. 2 seed Caleb Atkins of Tasmania clashed in the final with Jarrod taking the victory 3-0 (11-6 11-7 11-3).

Meanwhile, in the U17 Boys final Aryan Madan didn’t drop a game on his way to the title, beating Tasmanian Ashank Gupta in the final match of the round-robin competition 3-0 (11-6 11-2 11-3).

Lastly in the U19 Boys, it was a five-set thriller as the No. 2 seed Ryan Kelton defeated the No.1 seed James Sommer 3-2 (8-11, 15-13, 6-11, 11-6 11-7) with a number of close games throughout.
